Remember Waving Wednesdays

While out and about on my two wheels this morning I came across another cyclists who waved hello very enthusiastically. I'm not sure if the wave was because he thought he knew me or if it was because it was Wednesday but it reminded me, all the same, about a lovely bicycle tradition "Waving Wednesdays".

From the website:

Answers to commonly asked questions:

What's Waving Wednesday?
It's a simple concept! It's Wednesday and you're riding a bicycle. You see someone else on a bicycle. You wave to them. They wave to you.

Does it cost anything to participate in Waving Wednesday?
Waving Wednesday only costs about 3 calories per wave.

If I wave on Wednesdays, can I still wave on other days?
Waving to promote camaraderie among cyclists is always encouraged.

What qualifies as a wave?
A wave 'counts' when you move your hand back and forth at least 3 times. Nodding or saluting do not count - those salutations can find their own darn days.

Do I really have to do this?
Yes, you have to.

You can GO HERE to print out your own Waving Wednesday bookmark fliers to pass out around town and spread the word.

Now get out there and remember to wave!

  1. good idea - thanks for encouraging this. I always feel like waving, sometimes do, sometimes I hesitate. No more excuses!

  2. Its kind of tradition to wave when you happen across another cyclist on the road here in Redlands. When I mountain bike ride at my usual spot we wave but most of the time we will stop and chat while we rest after a hill climb. I think its all a nice change of pace. Long live wave Wednesday!
