Thursday May 13th is Bike To Work Day

and I couldn't be more excited!

Yes it's true, I bike to work everyday so technically this day will be no different. What makes it fun and exciting is the prospect of the streets being taken over with cyclists. People on bikes out numbering cars (at least at some locations). Not only that but the real kicker is the "refueling/energizer stations" where tons of local businesses, organizations, and city employees will be setting up stands to give away goodies to cyclists. These stations get started and end early so plan to be out and about between 7-9am.

The main event is the "Pancake Breakfast at Frank Ogawa Plaza, 7am. The Oakland City Council rides into downtown, followed by City Council press event and raffle prize drawing at 8:30am. It's the most delicious energizer station in the East Bay."

Then AFTER WORK there are more festivities (oh it just keeps getting better)

"Thursday, May 13, 2010, 5:30-8:30pm
On Telegraph Avenue from 16th-18th St, Uptown District of Oakland

Join us in wrapping up the excitement of Bike to Work Day with our biggest, most extravagant ever Bike Away from Work Party. This year's gala event features:

This year's special guest is State Senator Loni Hancock of Berkeley, who will update us on SB 1061 to allow bridge tolls to pay for a West Span Bay Bridge Bikeway."
