Strange happenings...another bee swarm. This time in MY front yard!

How strange. Just two days after posting about seeing my first bee swarm I see another one. This time at my own house! I was working in the garden when I heard that loud collective buzz. I looked up and they were swarming in the neighbors backyard. A minute or two later the sound went away and I realized they had moved to OUR front yard where they chose our small tree as their new home. I wish I had a hive I could shake them into. How awesome would it be to have my own honey makers.

  1. When bees swarm like this they do not stay. They are on the move to find a good spot for their hive, they will not build a hive in a tree. They should bee gone in the morning. But it would be great to have your own hive.

  2. yeah, I know they wont stay. That's why I said I wish I had a hive I could shake them in to. When they swarm and form a clump like that you can put a box under them then shake the branch and the clump will fall down in to the box. Then you can transport them to a new hive.
Dan and I have been reading up on bees to see if its something we might want to do in the future.

  3. I'm glad to hear that there are bees around, after reading about the drastic decline in the bee population. I just read that cell phones might be what is causing them to die. The microwaves mess with their systems, apparently.

  4. A Swarm of Bees in May in worth a load of Hay,
A Swarm of Bees in June is worth a silver spoon, but a Swarm is bees in July is not worth a fly...
a swarm in July will not have time to produce enough honey to sustain through winter and must be fed a bit to get through the season...bees do not sting when they swarm. Go Honey Bees!!!
